Australian Production Car Championship

In big news at David Levy Motorsport, we have recently taken on the task of running an F20 M135i in the Australian Production Car Championship.

We originally became tasked with the job of fitting a new engine after a mishap at Bathurst. This incident caused the rod to come out of the block. After importing a brand new engine from Germany, days later we were off to Phillip Island for the first round of the Production Car Championship. After ironing out few teething problems during Friday’s practice run, we were fairly confident the car would show it’s BMW reliability. A true testament to the BMW branding, we were lucky enough to come away with a round win, with well planned pit stops and a sprinkling of rain all playing in our favour.

Going into round 2 confidently, we were met with amazing Sydney weather (obviously in comparison to what we’re used to in Melbourne). The lovely weather and a new track, threw another set of problems at us. This being the unique turns at the Sydney Motorsport Park which caused the car to begin to get fuel surge.

Friday afternoon saw us removing the fuel tank and repairing the baffles in the tank. After rectifying the problem, we felt we could get the car a few more tenths quicker with some minor suspension changes! Lucky enough for us they worked and we went forwards in leaps and bounds, not backwards. Race 2, was an intense battle right down to the final few laps. With seconds separating the top 3. Unfortunately due to another competitor replacing their tyres, we couldn’t quiet keep the time and walked away with a 2nd place, coming onto dusk.

Going into Sunday, we were hungry for a race win! Analysing and brainstorming the car and its performance any way we could in order for a cleaner race, more comfortable and hopefully a bigger gap on our competitors. Fortunately for us, we managed to secure the race win on with a comfortable 10 second lead!! This left us with the round win and currently points leader heading into Round 3 at Queensland Raceway.

Stay tuned for more updates after Round 3 in sunny Queensland!!
